Neglect

Here’s some stuff i neglected to update last week.

Wallpapers

I Added 4 new wallpapers for you to download! although some of them really aren’t that new at all. but the crazy oddlips comic look was just done this evening! so fresh i’ll prolly hate it in the morning. haha.

Shortfolio / Threads Portfolio

tinyshortfolio

I made a Shortfolio and a Threads Portfolio this week. The idea is to be a shorter and more powerful portfolio, and something to show people that may be interested in working with me or in the fashion industry. or something.

Wild Wacom

flacom

This was something i forgot to add in my last post… I decorated my Wacom pen tablet, made it all outlandish, floral and ladle-y. hooray!

Quarter

Yes, it’s been shamefully long since i last updated this. i have tonnes of new stuff to show, to the point i’ve probably completely forgotten about some stuff! hah. 🙂 so let’s get on with it!

John B – Electrostep

This is John B’s 5th Artist Album. it may as well be 80s pop at 174bpm, which if you ask me is fantastic! great fun! hooray john! etc!

Med School

Med School is a new sub-label of the mighty Hospital Records. i spent ages dancing around ideas being so close to what I considered perfection but not quite, then I had some of what I called ‘colsperation’. Talking to Tony and seeing how enthusiastic he was about the project just fuelled me, and now it’s done and i’ve smashed it!

The project has consisted of logo and identity design, sleeve and labels, publicity, (minor) web design, and typography. I completely designed and created the two weights of the Med School font from scratch due to a dissatisfaction with the rounded typefaces available. again, very happy!

Critical Site

Speaking of webdesign, i actually did some for someone else. here is a little preview of the website I have built for Kasra’s Critical Music imprint. It hasn’t gone live yet tho, so this is only a little sneak at it…

[]

And I’m not stopping there! believe it or not, I’m doing more web design. A complete overhaul of Hospital Records’ website is in the pipelines too!

Logistics – Now More Than Ever

Here’s another big project I’ve been working on! This is Logistics’ debut album ‘Now More Than Ever’, which is probably the most anticipated and (hopefully going to be the) biggest drum & bass album of the year!

The project was really quite something! It started by Chris showing me his idea, then I got carried away with working on it! I came up with this wild outlandish idea to do the typography in lights, and ended up making it! Amongst usual design work – I singlehandedly commanded the leadup single “Beatbox Master”, and did the typographic work on the album, but the real feat of the project here is the 750-LED sign. I designed and engineered the sign from scratch, and soldered all 750 bulbs together (several times over in some places) and then wired it together. Many thanks to my grandpa for his sterling engineering advice througout the course of the project!

We then brought Boris Austin (BoxedLab.com) to photograph the man himself Logistics and the sign. There were a few minor hiccups with the photos, but we got there in the end and I think Boris has done an absolutely magnificent job of the photos!

Above: Album Cover. Also big ups to my brother Adam for loaning us the shades we used on the album cover. safety! Below: Leadup Single Cover

The leadup single is in Black and Silver (all spacey looking). It is being released on 12″ Single and 7″ in an inverted colourway, with an alternative B-Side. Buy Both! hehee. Oh and of course, the album is fantastic. 2 CDs of Magnificence! well done Loggy!

DOA002

After the seminal Floodlight by DJ Fresh launching the DOA label astronomically, there has been a rather long hiatus. but they’ve finally lined up the next single, and i was brought in to do the art.

It’s not very Trickartt! the music is very dark and techy, so i went for that look! hopefully it’ll look good in print and the people that like that sort of music will like my art! hehe.

Trickartt Threads

Just to tease you! here are my latest hand-painted designs. i promise i’ll start selling some if you can prove to me you’ll buy them! hehe.
skirtee

this was a bit of a weird idea that was kind of successful but kind of not. i like it, but after wearing it a couple times, thought it was a bit of a weird thing to have painted on my back (yet i’m happy to wear tshirts with space lizards and men in hippo suits? haha)

bambootee

now this design i am happier with. it’s maybe a little femenine, but i think it would look fantastic professionally printed! it’s my first not-completely-stupid design, and one of my first with minimal colours. i went for the lime green to match the laces in my new EMILIO PUCCI ADIDAS! hehee. i was so glad i got them!

Other Stuff!

We got some pinbadges made of the pixelly quiff i designed, to promote the computer love ep and renaissance man lp (both of which are out in the shops now, and i reccommend if you like your drum and bass bouncy and stupid!)
quiffpins

here is a thuggin’ bundt cake! threatening confectionary!
thugbundt

to further my range of carpentry products, I designed and built Adam a new bed for his birthday! i spent ages beavering away on it hidden in my grandparents’ garage working on it where he would never see it, but he still rumbled me, the swine. oh well, at least the end product is good! here it is modelled by his daughter, looking rather cheeky!
adbed

also on the carpentry tip, i finally finished and painted my record&bookshelves to match the decsk! very pleased with them both now! hooray! 🙂
relves

lastly, as you may have spotted in the above pic, i made a lamp! it matches the skirt I made for Lilly earlier in the year, and i’m really pleased with it! i think it ends the cupcake range from trickartt from the time being. i don’t want to potentially upset johnny cupcakes. haha. the workings are salvaged from a broken ikea lamp i managed to fix, the base is sculpted out of fimo, and the shade is hand-painted!
cupcakelamp

ok that’s enough from me. hopefully the next time i update this it will be sooner than 3 months away!

purpledesk

I sanded down, filled, and repainted my decsk in a fresh purple finish, and gave myself backache getting the bastard back up the staircase

Lillythings

skirtcloseup

Lilly and I found a skirt we both liked the look of, but weren’t inspired by the colour, so it got the Trickartt treatment. Hopefully we’ll have photos of her modelling it at some point soon too!

brushlilly

New wallpaper I made myself. It’s of Lilly too tho, and she’s mine!

Baking

Baking is creative, right?
trickarttcupcakes

Trickartt non-purple-Purple-Dude cupcakes!

brownies

Brownie Mountain!

Also done some other artistic things, the usual record sleevey stuff that can’t be unveiled just yet…

And got over an addiction to House– I watched 43 Episodes in one week! crazy! It is a good show tho!

XHTML and Cupcakes

Urg. My newsblog keeps expanding across many pages cos i’m learning new code stuff, and i’m too lazy to update it all. i’ve just brought this page up to XHTML 1.0 standards, and you can click the little thing at the bottom of the right hand corner for proof. <br /> it’s a doddle really, just about being a tiny bit stricter with my coding. boh!<br /> it’s all part of a bigger picture tho, i’m aiming at taking my hand to PHP now, so hopefully eventually this site will all be easy for me to update, and easier for you to use! wooo!

Anyhoo, i did this last week, before i went to party it up at heaven…

teecake

it’s a happy cupcake! it seemed quite popular. i’ve been thinking about doing the tshirt thing properly again lately, but that’s all i’ll say. thinking. cos there’s nothing more to it. one thing at a time, ricky.

Champion Keyfinder

After music theory and mixing A&R from Tomahawk, i’ve been on a crusade to actually learn about key mixing. the trouble was, i don’t have a piano or keyboard to work it out to. so i’ve made this borderline pointless flash device, which is a nice little 12-key synth with a circle of fifths to match, to hook up to decks and use to key up records, because the only flash keyboard i found was crap and ugly.

champ

bit of an oldschool synthy vibe, with the wood finish etc. tom hooked me up with the moogy samples. there are still some bugs to fix, and a proper page to be made, but it’s pretty sharp. linky on the right.

still need to make a better background for alternative css for this page. gonna pull out all the stops for that tho!

NEU!

Look at me go! i’ve been tearing thru the work at the moment, so it’s time to post up some new pictures of what i’ve been working on!

Hospitalised (Hospital)

I helped work on Hospital’s 100th release artwork. I designed the building pattern used on the cover, poorly illustrated here because the pattern is actually in extra deluxe spot varnish, which has proven to be a nightmare to photograph. I also created the picture of all 100 spines used inside the CD artwork. it’s all so luxury! 😀 and it’s out NOW! so run for the shops and buy it cos you like my art, and discover how good the music is too.

Cyantific – Ghetto Blaster (Hospital)

After NHS100, i got to work on Cyantific’s debut album ‘Ghetto Blaster’. It was probably one of the most strenuous projects i’ve worked on, but this is what’s yeilded. It’s a right tour-de-force of 1980s transformer toy powar with a bit of a decepticon vibe, but there is some autobot styles throughout the other parts of the artwork, which should be in my portfolio by now. Flashback is the leadup single to the album, which is released on 24th March, and you NEED to buy!

Intasound

I’ve recently picked up some work for DJ Bailey and his IntaSound imprint, so far have done a magazine advert and some labels for the next release. i’ve pictured the labels here, and the advert should be in the portfolio.

John B – …Myspace (Beta)

This is John B’s leadup single to his forthcoming album ‘Electrostep’ – it’s called ‘I’ve Been Stalking You On MySpace’, and we’re hoping for a bit of an indie-pop success, given the explosion of myspace across british youth lately. here is the cover- it’s got a punk vibe, and matches the Electrostep CD cover. The remix cover is similar but fluorescent green to burn your eyes out when you look at the vinyl in hmv. fun!

Critical

this one is so hot off the press! i only just finished this last night. deep house vibes for a new image for critical! i’m well happy with this. nice and clean. i’m also bizarrely pleased with the new labels i’ve done too. minimalism is teh win!

Grapefruit Madness

last weekend, i got bored and repainted my desk. got talked into painting it this garish orange colour. it’s a good look tho. i got some new needles in the post this week too (thanks jeryl!) so my old ones were sitting on my desk. suddenly, i noticed this;

DSCF1337hr

strangely, that was my 1337th photo i’ve taken with my newest camera. woo.

anyhoo. i’ve been on a grapefruit crusade. they’re great. vitamin c and tasty and fun to eat etc etc. here are 2 victims.

lastly, here is a wobbly cow on a swing, with hooves *in* cress, a maroon cape, speedo swimming goggles (can never be too careful), and eating a ladle.

New stuff and Things

ok. so with the new site comes new stuff.

Hospitality December

funfunfun! i shut the place down early, then cos everywhere was so shut down, i had to go upstairs to chill out, listening to chris and zac’s funk silexion, unearthing classics such as ‘what a fool believes’ by the doobie brothers. once again, andrew bazil took some fantastic snaps of the night. here’s my fave one of me playing! look! i’m smiling!

hospicember

Hospitali-Free

so last night was hospitali-free, the start of the 10 years of hospital bash. i got called in for an emergency (set) to do the super early unexpected crunchdown, which was a good giggle and very busy.

Stuff

agh it’s all hospital so far! NHS100 is out in 10 days, which i assisted with artistically. i tried to take photos of my plush spot varnish, but struggled. i did various bits in this project, and there’s also a rather scarey photo of me in the booklet.

i’ve started the year with two album projects, i’m currently working on John B’s fifth album ‘Electrostep’, which is sounding really fun and like nothing else in drum and bass. the cover is pink and outlandish! i’m also tying up another Hospital album, but i don’t think i’m really allowed to disclose details yet. give it a week or two and it should be common knowledge.had a few ups and downs with this one, but it’s all good.</p>
<p>on my last portfolio update, i added loads of bits i already mentioned here in the weblog, but something i didn’t was the tangent artwork.

tangentfront

other stuff i’ve been working on can’t be mentioned yet either. hehe.

i’m also gonna add my newly revamped cv / résumé to the site. somewhere.

i’ve been consumed by video games lately again. i made the mistake of getting an even bigger memory stick for my psp, which has led to me getting engulfed by burnout on my psp, and before that, all the advertising of gta:lcs on tv had got to me, but i refused to pay £40 for it, so i went down to computer exchange and bought gta3 for a bargain £3! bargain or not, it still wasted a lot of my time. so to repay for that, i’m on tv strike, i’ve only watched one episode of the neighbours (told it was a must-see by adam, my was he right! plane crash!) and one episode some cracked out modern-come-1970s cop show on the bbc in the past 2 weeks. and i have been more productive for it.

i’m finally learning css, and this page is evident for it! wooo! i’m so pleased with myself, cos it’s actually working!

lastly, in case you didn’t notice, i put a link to my myspace page up on the top of the page, and in the right hand column. so if you are on this godawful timewasting wild zoo, feel free to add me and leave me comments about how much you hate my artwork.
